My Favourite Festival
- Diwali
There are many festivals that are
celebrated around the world, each with their own unique traditions and customs.
My favourite festival is Diwali, which is a Hindu festival that is celebrated
in India and by Indians all over the world.
Diwali, also known as the
"festival of lights," is celebrated over a five-day period in the
Hindu month of Kartik. It is a time for people to come together with their
families and friends to celebrate the victory of good over evil and light over
darkness.
One of the most interesting
traditions of Diwali is the lighting of diyas, which are small clay lamps
filled with oil that are lit and placed in homes and temples. This is done to
symbolize the victory of light over darkness and to provide guidance to the
goddess Lakshmi, who is believed to visit every home during Diwali.
Another important tradition
during Diwali is the exchange of gifts and sweets with loved ones. People often
give each other sweets and other treats, as well as clothing and jewellery, as
a way to celebrate the festival and show their love and appreciation for one
another.
One of the most exciting parts of
Diwali for me is the fireworks and firecrackers. On the night of Diwali, people
light fireworks and set off firecrackers in the streets and in their homes to
celebrate the victory of good over evil. The sky is filled with colourful
sparks and the air is filled with the sound of explosions, making it a truly
magical experience.
In addition to the celebrations
and traditions, Diwali also has a deeper spiritual significance. It is a time
for people to come together and reflect on the past year, and to make
resolutions for the year ahead. It is also a time for people to clean and
decorate their homes, and to seek forgiveness for any wrongs they may have
committed.
Overall, Diwali is a truly
special and unique festival that I look forward to every year. It is a time for
joy, celebration, and reflection, and a time for coming together with loved
ones to celebrate the victory of good over evil. The festival holds a special
place in my heart and will always be my favourite.
